Overall Structure


The structure is divided into three parts as follows:

Structure quality

High resolution of 2.5Å with good Ramachandran analysis (rounded up): 91.5% of structure in favoured region, 8.4% in allowed region, and 0.2% in generously allowed region. R factor was calculated to be 0.236 (best is 0.2 for 2.5Å resolution), showing small discrepancy between experimental diffraction data and the crystal model.
Overall, the crystal structure is of good quality and thus reliable

General structure





(A) general protein structure, showing its surface superimposed with cartoon;
(B) cartoon depiction, showing the 14 TM helices, with TMX and TMXI (situated near the hemes) being covered;
(C) cofactors and HQNO are depicted in their relative position to each other in the protein. Low spin heme b is ligated by His355 and His 653, whereas High spin heme b3 is ligated by His651;
(D) main functional parts of the protein for reduction of NO, which each is further illustrated in subsequent pages. Binuclear centre refers to Zn ion and heme b3, where the redox reaction is deduced to take place.
